My Caribbean

My Caribbean, let me sing a song for you
With your blue blue skies and turquoise seas
And smiles as bright as the sun

GUYANA, my home country, your face to the Caribbean Sea
Your arms embracing the ocean
Your feet in the green Amazon

TRINIDAD, my sister island, your steel band sweet to the ears
Every day a carnival
Full of both joy and pain

My Caribbean, let me sing a song for you
With your blue blue skies and turquoise seas
And smiles as bright as the sun

BARBADOS, your white beaches, the cliff top at North Point
Pointing the way to Africa
Across a rolling Atlantic

ST. LUCIA, you’re the jewel, your Petit and Grand Piton
Soufriere and waterfalls, and little boys like dolphins
Diving, swimming, free

My Caribbean, let me sing a song for you
With your blue blue skies and turquoise seas
And smiles as bright as the sun

CUBA, dazzling HAVANA, music on the street
Your heart in stone and colour
Bright as the Tocororo bird

So many more islands I have yet to see
Numerous as the beads of a rosary
Jamaica, Dominica, Puerto Rico, Martinique …

Like jewels on a necklace they sparkle in the sea
My Caribbean, how proud I am to be
Your native child.
