Skipping Poem

1,2,3 jump in!
I see a jumbie grin
And I lick* im pon his skin!

4,5,6 turn round
I see a jumbie come
And I shoot im with me bum!

7,8,9 and 10
I see a baby jumbie
And I cut him with me eye!

Jumbie mother, jumbie father
Jumbie sister, jumbie brother
Ole Higue, Soucayant
Diablesse, all come!

Well! I
Lick them with me rhythm
I lick them with me whip
If you want to conquer jumbie
Then you have to learn to skip!

Jumbie is a word for ghost in Guyana. 'Lick' means to beat.

A little bit of blog about me:

I was born in Guyana and have been living in the UK since 1971.

I run poetry workshops for all age groups.
